« Sur les routes de Samarcande » / Paris

The design project is based on a magnificent collection of Uzbek textiles and objects, which we wish to present in a way that partially breaks with the codes of museographic presentation.

Here are some rules that guided us during this first phase of reflection:

- to create an immersive and surprising experience that leads visitors to immerse themselves in the heart of Uzbek culture :
- to create a fluid, open and colourful space that evokes the vast spaces of Uzbekistan and links the different sections of the exhibition
- to build as little as possible, essentially with light elements
- play on a double register in the presentation of the artworks: on the one hand isolate some exceptional pieces, on the other hand create accumulation effects to show the richness and variety of the textiles and objects presented
- to create installations by presenting the objects in sometimes unexpected ways : hanging hats, superimposed coats, etc.

The visit starts on the upper floor, where the visitor is immersed in the fairy-tale world of the Emirs’ court, then taken through the colours and patterns of the magnificent Suzanis collection. The lower level reveals a rich collection of paintings and jewellery, as well as an installation of Ikats that dialogue with the Karakalpak and Parandja outfits.

The entrance and staircase areas will be home to a graphic installation of traditional Uzbek motifs, from which the textile panels punctuating the space and organising the tour will also be designed.

Parti lumière

A controlled lighting environment will reveal the brilliance of the fabrics and draw the visitor into a world that is largely undiscovered.
